'Crossing the sea of drowned hopes'.
Illustrated series.
It was 2017 when over 900 people, including children, died in the mediterranean sea, trying to find a better life.
"Mediterranean: Nearly 9,000 Migrants Rescued in One Weekend, as Total Deaths Reach 900 in 2017" - International Organisation of Migration.
By the end of 2017 the number of deaths reached over 3000. One of the deadliest routes was the Libya-to-Italy route. (Sources: International Organisation of Migration).
Illustrations: I chose to use a minimal style and rough lines.
I though simplicity was enough to tell a story and send a strong message.
Fast-forward to 2023:
On the 23rd of February 2023 I drew this illustration and wrote:
"I'm heart broken,
I can't stop thinking about it.
2023, 59 people drowned, no rescue,
12 children died."
I can't stop thinking about it.
2023, 59 people drowned, no rescue,
12 children died."
